(P3) Develop concept ideas and sequence for an animation to meet a client brief
Medium -
The medium I am going to use for my animation is a digital, frame by frame animation. This can be done in Adobe Animate, which is what I will primarily use to create the animation. I will also use Adobe After Effects if necessary for some of the smooth effects that I might want to use.
I am going to use Adobe animate as it is the best way to get the chosen style that I have selected, which is the smooth yet jumpy frame style that is popular amongst kids cartoons.
Initially, I had the idea to use these two characters, which individually represent each season. Blue is winter; green is spring. The idea is that these two characters would fly around each other and create the Flip TV logo as they fly around the screen.
This is the first storyboard step of my animation idea. I wanted to use icicle inspired drops to run around the screen, which will represent the winter character.
Synopsis -
For my idents I am going to use the Flip TV logo with a childish, colourful animation style. The style that I am going for is the fluid stop motion animation which has been used with idents in the past. For example, on multiple occasions, Nickelodeon have used this style for their own idents. I feel this style reflects children's TV nicely, and is a simple yet effective animation that is enjoyable to watch especially when it is smooth and colourful.
The idents, following the brief, will both be 15 seconds long. One of them will be for the introduction and the other one for the end of the episode. There will be a VoiceOver also for both idents. The first one will be "You are watching Flip TV" and the second one is "Stay tuned for more Flip TV". These voiceovers will be created externally. The theme is the end of winter; moving into spring. This means that the colours should be bright and coincide with greens and spring-style colours. A good idea for this would be to use popular easter colours such as green, yellow and blue. These colours act well together so they would work nicely with the brief.
The idea that I have is to use the fluid animation to form the letters in the name Flip TV. This would be a nice style and interesting to watch. The colours of each letter would be different, and the fluid could intertwine and run in patterns around each letter. For the ending indent, I could do something very similar but the other way round, so the letters are turned into the liquid animation which would signify the ends of the animation.
After trialling this animation style, I found that it was very time intensive and did not look as well as I envisioned, so I changed my idea to a more suitable medium. The idea I chose was to create two different backgrounds, and use a leaf to symbolise the switch between winter and spring.
New Idea -
After developing this idea, I decided that I wanted to change the idea of my animation. The concept that I had was a good idea, and was fitting with the style of the animation brief, however the production process was too steep to be done within the time frame. Following this, I decided to use my prior experience with After Effects (Unit 20) to create a short and simple animation which also fit within the brief.
