(P2) Describe the uses for digitised animation in the media

In this post, I will discuss how animation is used in the media for different audiences and genres and why these types of animations are used accordingly.

Digital animation is popular in all types of media genres. The use is mainly to entertain, as children are more captivated by fictional animation than they are things such as real films and real footage. Using animation to entertain is most likely on things such as TV channels and streaming services, where they produce animated shows which are watched by a vast range of audience members.

Using animation to entertain is the most common way to use it, as it is a more captivating interesting style of visuals. This means that things such as facial expressions and animations can be more exaggerates with animation without looking overly expressive.

The medium I am going to use for my animation is a digital, frame by frame animation. This can be done in Adobe Animate, which is what I will primarily use to create the animation. I will also use Adobe After Effects if necessary for some of the smooth effects that I might want to use.

I am going to use Adobe animate as it is the best way to get the chosen style that I have selected, which is the smooth yet jumpy frame style that is popular amongst kids cartoons.

Animation has various genres, each with different production, style, costs and effects. These genres are just as common as each other amongst the animation group, and are used differently by various production companies dependent on the film they are creating. For example, Pixar like to create narrative driven adventure/drama animations that each have very similar narratives based around different characters. Pixar use digital animation, which is based around creating a realistic environment but using fantasy characters that fit into these environments.

Digital 3D Animation -

Digital 3D animation is a type of animation which is done entirely on and by computers. The characters are created in 3D modelling software and then they are placed into scene and moved around in the 3d editing software.

Film Animation -

Rango -

Rango is a 2011 adventure/comedy film which was created fully in digital animation. The film is based around a pet chameleon who gets lost in the middle of a droughted desert/western area. he then subsequently comes across a village of people who are running out of their water supply, and sets his goals on exposing the corrupt water based leadership of the town.

The film is definitely directed at children as it has a simple, easy to follow narrative. This genre of animation is mostly for children, as they find this format more interesting.

Another genre of animation is TV animation. This type of animation is used between various different genres and age groups. For example, children's animations fall into this bracket on specific channels such as CBeebies and Nickelodeon, with examples like SpongeBob and Bluey.
The other audience that frequently watch TV animations are older teens and adults. They watch shows such as The Simpsons, Rick and Morty and Family Guy. These animations are explicit comedy animation shows which revolve around being amusing to the more mature audiences.
